How to Clean Your Oven with Baking Soda and Vinegar

July 30, 2021 by maidwhiz

Cooking and baking are messy by nature. Dealing with the consequences of the spills and splatters they create can be one of the most demanding parts of keeping a clean and tidy household. A mere look at an oven stained with baked-on food and grease remains can make you want to schedule a professional house cleaning in Fort Lee. And no one would blame you.

Getting the pros to do the job for you is the quickest and most efficient solution, but what can you do to clean it on your own? To remove any oven dirt that might be bothering you, all you need to do is follow the advice listed below. Read on!

What is the easiest way to clean an oven?

What is the easiest way to clean an ovenMany ovens come equipped with a self-cleaning function. Unfortunately, this only works if your oven is moderately dirty. If it’s been a while since your oven has last undergone a full-scale cleaning session, and unless you want the smell of burning grease to fill your home, the self-cleaning function should not be an option.

Store-bought oven cleaners can get the job done if you use them according to the instructions. However, to be able to cut through baked-on grease, these often contain harsh chemicals that can damage your skin, create unpleasant smells and irritate your eyes and lungs.

Give your oven a less foul-smelling yet effective scrub without damaging your health. All you’ll need to do is gather up a few items you probably already have in your pantry.

How do you clean the inside of an oven?

What you need to clean your kitchen appliances is most probably already part of your kitchen stockpile. Common household items like baking soda and white vinegar can deep clean a kitchen sink and even clean and degrease a dirty microwave.

To clean the inside of your oven using baking soda and vinegar follow these easy steps:

  1. Remove the racks and everything else from the oven.
  2. Put the racks into your kitchen sink or bathtub and sprinkle them generously with baking soda. Pour vinegar on top and let the combination foam. Plug your bathtub or sink and pour hot water over the racks until they are completely covered. Let the racks stay soaked underwater overnight or for 10 to 12 hours.
  3. Mix half a cup of baking soda with a small amount of water to form a paste.
  4. Use gloves to coat the entire inside of your oven and cover all of its sides, crevices, and door. Don’t spread the paste onto the heating elements or where the gas gets through. Leave the paste to sit overnight or for at least 10 to 12 hours.
  5. Use a wet cloth to wipe down everything you’ve put the paste on. If necessary, scour the persisting dirt using an abrasive sponge.
  6. If chunks of the paste still linger onto the oven, spray them with vinegar, let it foam, and wipe again.
  7. Place the clean racks, along with everything else you keep in the oven back inside.
